11 intrepid OFF members enjoyed a tough 9.5km loop walk in Heathcote NP with Ian Pitt leading. Much of the walk was on little known and little used trails taking us between fire-trails and more well-known routes, including the Pipeline Track. Many of these minor tracks were steep and rocky adding to the sense of adventure participants felt. However, the effort was definitely worth it with our destinations being 3 beautiful swimming holes on the Woronora River and Heathcote Creek, much appreciated by some, as it was a hot day. Lake Eckersley on the Woronora was the largest and is very impressive. On completion we were tired but satisfied after a great walk.

Lake Eckersley is located near Waterfall in Heathcote National Park, This remote spot, which has a lovely picnic area, is a scenic place to swim and bushwalk. The walk is a 10km loop track, taking about 4 to 5 hours. A wonderful easy to medium adventure, mostly on minor tracks with one off-track section and a scramble. Meet at the end of Burns Rd, Heathcote, for a 10am start.
Bring snacks, lunch and water and wear sturdy shoes and a hat and possibly walking poles and cossies if you would like a swim (and the weather is suitable). Check with leader Ian Pitt on 0410 709 935 or email him at ipitt@optusnet.com.au the day before if inclement weather.
